By phase

Marvel movies from Iron Man on

Pick a phase. Short takes, trailers, and what’s coming (Doomsday, Vision, Endgame Encore).

2008–2012 · Infinity Saga begins

This is where it starts — a rich guy in a cave builds a suit, and somehow we end up with a New York skyline full of aliens. Phase 1 is short, punchy, and still the easiest on-ramp for anyone asking “Marvel movies in order from Iron Man.”

  • Iron Man

    (2008)

The spark. Tony Stark walks out of that cave and the whole MCU follows.

  • The Incredible Hulk

    (2008)

Banner on the run. A little awkward beside the rest, but still Phase 1 canon.

    ▶ Watch trailer
  • Iron Man 2

    (2010)

Expo chaos, Rivalry, and the first real SHIELD fingerprints.

    ▶ Watch trailer
  • Thor

    (2011)

Gods, New Mexico diners, and a hammer nobody else can lift.

    ▶ Watch trailer
  • Captain America: The First Avenger

    (2011)

1940s Steve Rogers — watch it here in release order, even if timeline freaks put it first.

    ▶ Watch trailer
  • The Avengers

    (2012)

The team-up that proved Marvel movies could share a universe and still feel like a night out.

Every few months someone in the group chat goes: bro where do I even start with Marvel movies? Then three people answer at once. One says Iron Man. One says Captain America because “timeline.” One drops a Google Sheet with colour codes. Conversation dies.

So here’s the version I’d actually send.

Watch Marvel movies in order by MCU phase — Phase 1 through Phase 6. Start with Iron Man. Keep going. When Disney+ shows start mattering, I’ll flag it. The big December 2026 movie everyone’s marking is Avengers: Doomsday. There’s a Vision series coming on Disney+ too. And yeah, Avengers: Endgame Encore is back in theatres with extra footage because Marvel knows how to warm up a crowd.

The tabs below are the real list — tap a phase, skim the takes, hit a trailer if you want. You don’t need to memorise 30+ titles first.

The short version

  • New to Marvel movies? Iron Man (2008), then release order by phase.
  • Infinity Saga = Phases 1–3 (ends around Endgame / Far From Home).
  • Multiverse Saga = Phases 4–6 (Disney+ counts; Fantastic Four and Brand New Day are in; Doomsday is next).
  • Avengers: Doomsday — aimed at 18 Dec 2026.
  • VisionQuest — Vision on Disney+, Oct 2026-ish. Do WandaVision first.
  • Endgame Encore in theatres from 25 Sept 2026 — not a plain re-run; extra bits that bridge toward Doomsday.

How I’d tell a friend to watch

Skip the “start in 1945” chronological run unless you’re already obsessed. Begin at Iron Man. Finish Phase 1 with The Avengers. Keep the streak going through Civil War, Infinity War, Endgame.

From Phase 4 onwards, Disney+ isn’t just bonus content. WandaVision and Loki change how later stuff hits. You can skip some shows. You can’t pretend none of them exist.

Cramming before Doomsday? Rough cut: Endgame Encore (if it’s still playing) → No Way Home → Brand New Day → Guardians Vol. 3 → Deadpool & Wolverine → Fantastic Four → show up. You’ll miss threads. You’ll still have a night.

The phase tabs

Under this bit you’ll see Phase 1, Phase 2, all the way to Coming up. That’s Iron Man through Fantastic Four, plus Doomsday / VisionQuest / Endgame Encore, with trailers where we locked them. On phone, just swipe the chips.

Infinity Saga vs Multiverse Saga

Infinity Saga (1–3) is the clean arc: suit guy, gods, spies, Guardians, then Thanos ruins everyone’s weekend.

Multiverse Saga (4–6) is messier. Variants, grief, new teams, Deadpool kicking the door in, Fantastic Four walking through. Doomsday and Secret Wars are the big swings meant to pull it together.

That’s MCU phases explained without a TED Talk.

What’s coming (and Endgame Encore)

Marvel isn’t only shipping brand-new titles. Avengers: Endgame Encore hits theatres from 25 Sept 2026 — marketed as Encore, not a plain re-release. You’re getting a bit of new footage (listings put it around four minutes longer) plus a look toward Doomsday on 18 Dec 2026. The Russos have straight-up called it required viewing before December. IMAX and Infinity Vision screens get an extra sneak.

VisionQuest is the Vision Disney+ show people mean when they say “the Vision series.” Paul Bettany’s back, fall 2026. If Agatha All Along wasn’t your thing, at least do WandaVision so it doesn’t feel cold.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is already out — bridge between No Way Home and the Avengers-sized mess. Secret Wars is pencilled for late 2027. Watch Doomsday first or you’ll be that person asking questions in the lobby.

Hollywood moves dates. Anything labelled upcoming is the current public target, not a promise carved in vibranium.

Key takeaways

  • Marvel movies in order for most people: Iron Man → phase / release order.
  • 1–3 = Infinity Saga. 4–6 = Multiverse Saga (movies + Disney+).
  • Tabs above = full phase lists + trailers.
  • Next chatter magnets: Doomsday (Dec 2026), VisionQuest (fall 2026), and Endgame Encore in theatres now / soon.
  • Endgame Encore = theatrical return with extra Doomsday-bridging material — not just nostalgia.

FAQ

What is the correct Marvel movies in order list?

For most people: release order by MCU phase, starting with Iron Man (2008). That’s what the tabs use. Chronological (First Avenger first) is a rewatch flex, not day one.

How many MCU phases are there?

Six on the public roadmap — 1 to 3 for the Infinity Saga, 4 to 6 for the Multiverse Saga. Phase 6 is still rolling.

Do I need Disney+ to understand Marvel movies?

Phases 1–3: mostly fine on films alone. Phase 4 onward: WandaVision, Loki, and friends matter. Skip some if you want; just know you’ll miss glue.

When is Avengers: Doomsday out?

Aimed at 18 December 2026. Recheck when tickets appear — schedules twitch.

What’s the Vision series?

VisionQuest on Disney+ (fall 2026 target). Vision-focused. WandaVision is the emotional homework; Agatha helps if you’re already in that lane.

Worth catching Endgame Encore?

If you can get a ticket before Doomsday — yes. It’s the Encore presentation with new connective tissue, not just “watch Endgame again on a bigger screen.” Already know every portal shot by heart and hate queues? Stream the original and hunt the Encore differences later if you want.
