Best Tamil Comedy Movies on OTT: 15 Kollywood Laugh Riot Picks to Stream

Tamil cinema's comedy game is on another level — no other industry in India comes close. Long before the pan-India wave, Kollywood ran on laughter: Vaali's razor-sharp wordplay, Crazy Mohan's legendary scripts, and a line of comedians from Nagesh to Vadivelu to Yogi Babu who could turn a two-minute scene into the reason you rewatch a film. And the best part? Most of it is streaming right now. This list rounds up the best Tamil comedy movies on OTT — the laugh riots worth your weekend, whether you're a lifelong Kollywood fan or a curious newcomer who just finished a Vikram or a Jai Bhim and wants the lighter side of Tamil cinema.

Quick heads-up: OTT catalogues shuffle constantly, and a title on Sun NXT today might move to JioHotstar or Prime Video next month. Treat the platform mentions below as a general guide, not a guarantee — always double-check before you settle in.

The Best Tamil Comedy Movies to Stream Right Now

1. Panchatanthiram (2002)

Kamal Haasan and Crazy Mohan at their absolute peak. A man's wedding night spirals into a chaotic tangle of mistaken identities, suspicious friends, and one unforgettable hotel room. The dialogue is the star here — quotable lines that Tamil audiences have been repeating for over two decades. A gold-standard comedy that rewards multiple rewatches.

2. Michael Madana Kama Rajan (1990)

Four separated brothers, one case of mistaken identity, and a cast stacked with Kamal Haasan, Kushboo, and Urvashi. Singeetam Srinivasa Rao directs this farce with clockwork precision. It's the kind of comedy where every setup pays off, and the humour still lands decades later.

3. Vikram Vedha (2017)

Yes, it's a crime drama — but the Madhavan–Vijay Sethupathi exchanges are loaded with dry, dark humour that makes the film endlessly rewatchable. If you like your laughs laced with tension, this is the pick. Pushkar–Gayathri's script crackles.

4. Doctor (2021)

Nelson Dilipkumar's deadpan comedy casts Sivakarthikeyan as a surgeon who stumbles into a human-trafficking ring. The tonal juggling shouldn't work, but the film's poker-faced humour and Priyanka Arul Mohan's presence make it a breezy OTT favourite.

5. Boss Engira Bhaskaran (2010)

Arya and Nayanthara in a Rajesh-directed comedy about a happy-go-lucky slacker. Santhanam's one-liners are the real draw — this is peak Santhanam era, and the film remains a comfort watch on streaming.

6. Soodhu Kavvum (2013)

Nalan Kumarasamy's cult classic about a group of inept kidnappers is dark, absurd, and hilarious. Vijay Sethupathi's performance as a philosophical crook turned the film into a trendsetter for a whole wave of quirky Tamil comedies.

7. Kalakalappu (2012)

Sundar C's ensemble comedy set around a struggling restaurant is pure chaos in the best way. Santhanam, Shiva, and Vimal bounce off each other, and the film's slapstick energy makes it a perfect family-streaming pick.

8. Thenali (2000)

Kamal Haasan as a Sri Lankan Tamil with a fear of everything, paired with Jayaram and Jyothika. K. S. Ravikumar directs, Crazy Mohan writes, and the result is a laugh-a-minute ride that holds up remarkably well.

9. Varuthapadatha Valibar Sangam (2013)

Sivakarthikeyan and Sathyaraj in a village comedy about a group of carefree youngsters. The humour is broad and affectionate, and the film's songs became a phenomenon in their own right.

10. Kalyana Samayal Saadham (2013)

A sweet, slightly naughty romantic comedy about a couple navigating an arranged marriage. Prasanna and Lekha Washington are charming, and the film's honest, low-key humour makes it a standout in the genre.

11. Naduvula Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom (2012)

A groom loses his memory days before his wedding — and his friends have to cover it up. The premise is simple, the execution is hilarious, and Vijay Sethupathi's breakout performance turned this micro-budget film into a cult favourite.

12. Maheshinte Prathikaaram (2016)

Technically a Malayalam film, but it's a must-mention for anyone exploring South Indian comedy on OTT. Fahadh Faasil's understated turn as a small-town photographer is a masterclass in gentle, observational humour.

13. Kadaikutty Singam (2018)

Karthi leads this rural family comedy-drama about a man with eight sisters. The humour is warm and rooted, and the film balances laughs with genuine emotion.

14. Comali (2019)

Jayam Ravi plays a man who wakes from a 16-year coma into a world he doesn't recognise. The satire is broad, but the film's comic energy and Yogi Babu's presence make it an easy OTT watch.

15. Naanum Rowdy Dhaan (2015)

Vignesh Shivan's romantic comedy pairs Vijay Sethupathi with Nayanthara in a story about a wannabe gangster and a deaf woman. It's quirky, funny, and surprisingly sweet — a cult favourite that keeps finding new audiences on streaming.
