New Tamil Movies This Weekend (29–30 Aug 2026)

If you're a Kollywood fan, the end of August packed theatres and OTT with fresh Tamil titles. The big Friday drop was 28-08-2026, so this weekend of 29-08-2026 Saturday and 30-08-2026 Sunday is prime time to catch new releases on the big screen — or stream a new rom-com from home. Here's what's actually playing, with trailers and where to watch.

Tamil Movies in Theatres This Weekend

1. Hi (2026)

Director: Vishnu Edavan · Cast: Kavin, Nayanthara, Prabhu, K. Bhagyaraj, Radikaa Sarathkumar · Runtime: 144 min (2 Hours 24 mins) · Genre: Comedy, Drama, Romance

Stylised as Hi :), this rom-com drama follows two people with opposite ideas about love who get thrown into an awkward situation and slowly figure out what love actually means. Vishnu Edavan's debut, produced with Zee Studios / Rowdy Pictures / Seven Screen Studio, opened in theatres on 28-08-2026 — so this weekend is still opening-weekend energy nationwide.

Why This Weekend’s Tamil Lineup Matters

This isn't a fake “sequel dump” weekend — it's a real mix of a star-led theatrical rom-com (Hi), a distinctive drama (Once More), a smaller thriller (Amaram), and a fresh OTT rom-com (Anbe Diana). If you're choosing one theatre outing, Hi is the clearest wide-release conversation starter; if you're staying in, Anbe Diana is the easy stream.

Where to Watch – Quick Guide

• Theatres: Hi, Once More, Amaram (opened 28-08-2026 — still running through this weekend)
• SonyLIV: Anbe Diana (from 28-08-2026)

Note: Showtimes and OTT catalogues change by city and region. Always double-check BookMyShow / your local cinema and the streaming app before you head out.
